Yikes. Fans are slamming Gigi Hadid’s latest Vogue cover because her skin looks a LOT darker than normal. This episode is brought to you by Secret Active. New Secret Active provides protection in the moments when it matters most.

All we can say is WHY? Just why.

Gigi Hadid is one of the most gorgeous girls on the planet. But right now she’s caught in a media storm of controversy over her new Vogue Italia cover. The cover sees Gigi with black hair blankly gazing at the camera wearing a gold crown and a sequin Queen of Hearts jumpsuit. If that wasn’t enough she’s holding and hiding the face of made model Justin Martin. The magazine caption reads “High Voltage Gigi Hadid by Steven Klein”. Gigi was pretty excited about this and posted the cover to her IG writing, “A story for #HighVoltage-Power Women ! Excited, honored, and grateful to cover @VogueItalia’s May Issue… thank you so so much for an amazing shoot, I am forever inspired by you all !!!” Let’s just pause for a second so we can say WHAT THE HECK IS ACTUALLY GOING ON WITH THIS COVER.

Aside from the look and the title not really coinciding, we have to do a double take on Gigi. Is that really YOU? Either someone bronzer bombed Gigi’s face or we have a major photoshop fail on our hands. Don’t worry her fans have noticed as well. The comments on Gigi’s Instagram post of the cover range from, “Blackface much???” to “Who dis sis”. Some fans were quick to shift the blame from Gigi to Vogue saying QUOTE, “Ya’ll don’t go off on Gigi. She’s the model. If you feel frustrated, take it out on Vogue…I’m sure Gigi never intended for any of this.” Others didn’t think this unrecognizable look was a big deal at all, “It still would have been her in the picture no matter what the theme. It’s not like they choose her to do a African or Bollywood theme shoot. It’s just a few pounds of bronzer and lighting. Calm down”. If you’ve already calmed down, we’d like to point out the behind-the-scenes video of the shoot sees Gigi in some MORE questionable looks…

Sadly, this isn’t the first time this combo of Gigi and Vogue have gotten heat for cultural appropriation. In the December 2015 issue of Vogue Italia Gigi was slammed for wearing an afro style wig. And on Vogue Arabia’s first ever issue in 2017 fans blasted Gigi for wearing a Muslim Hijab as a “trend”.

So the big question is: do you guys think this new cover is a big deal… or nah? Tell us below if you think there’s some black face happening here or if it’s just another photoshop fail?
